In a pair differencing experiment instrumental polarization is irrelevant
We force the experiment to see zero pol. when it is looking at a known unpolarized source
Doesn't matter if the optics transmit half as much light in one orientation versus the other!

However the price is that we must have a reliable unpolarized source to calibrate on...
