Seeing the Sound Horizon at Combination


The CMB comes to us from the "surface of last scattering" at roughly 300,000 years after the beginning.

During the first 300,000 years the Universe was a hot, slightly lumpy plasma.

The dominant lump size when combination occurred was the size of the sound horizon at that time.

Turns out this was similar for a wide variety of universes...
